Family Happiness (Lesson 9)

“Happiness in family life is most likely to be achieved when founded upon the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ.”The Family: A Proclamation to the World

Some benefits associated with participating in church and applying the teaching taught in our homes are,

  • Being associated with any religion and participating in that religion helps reduce the likelihood of an affair compared to those who don't associate with a religion.
  • Regular church attendance lowers rate of pornography use
  • Parents more involved with their children. Showing love and less likely to abuse their children
  • Avoid practices that harm family relationships, drugs, crime, gambling, idleness and pornography
  • When children participate in church, family and personal prayer/Scripture study they are less likely to find themselves in trouble.

Consider the home in which you dwell.  Decide together how you can create an atmosphere more conducive to the Spirit.  Set specific goals together to do things that will bring about a more sacred atmosphere.  Work on a couple of your goals for a week, and at the end of the week, discuss together how this change has affected your home.  Discuss ways you could modify your goals to make them more successful.

  • Compare your home to the temple.  How are they the same?  How are they different?  Counsel with your family on how to appropriately incorporate the principles that make the temple a sacred place into your home and family life.  You could place pictures of your family together at the temple to remind you of the sacred nature of your family and home.  Have each person commit to doing at least one thing to make your home/apt a more sacred center for your lives.

(questions from BYUI course, Tamra Gray)

  • Remember if there is contention in the home they spirit can not dwell. How can you as individuals cultivate the spirit in your individual lives and as a family?
